Who We Are
Founded in 1982, the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is a nonprofit hunger relief organization that distributes donated and purchased foods through a network of more than 200 Partner Agencies in 12 counties. NTFB service area includes: Dallas, Collin, Fannin, Rockwall, Hunt, Grayson, Kaufman, Ellis, Navarro, Lamar, Delta, and Hopkins.

Our Effectiveness
Every dollar donated to NTFB provides access to three healthy meals for hungry North Texans, and 95 percent of our resources go directly to hunger relief programs.
What We Do
What is an NTFB Kernel?
Inspired by the seed of the wheat plant, an NTFB Kernel is a volunteer leader who helps our organization grow. These dedicated individuals are at least 21 years of age, and regularly give their time to the North Texas Food Bank.
What does a Kernel do?
An NTFB Kernel assists in many facets of the organization. Kernels serve on the Production Floor, in the Repack Room, in Jan's Garden, out at Senior Food Box Distributions, and more! The Kernel provides guidance to volunteers, helps ensure accuracy of the product, and engages with volunteers or neighbors.
Interested in becoming a Kernel?
To become a Kernel, a volunteer must serve with the North Texas Food Bank in their desired Kernel area consistently for a minimum of six months or a minimum of 82 hours in a four-month period. A candidate for the Kernel program must have a recommendation from a staff member or current Kernel that will be required on the Kernel Application. A candidate for the Kernel program should have demonstrated NTFB's core values of Compassion, Integrity, and Collaboration during their volunteer service.
