Volunteer: Bulk Repacking

The Distribution Center posts an entire month's calendar one month in advance on the first business day of the month. Once a shift is full, it will disappear from the calendar.  

  

This opportunity takes place at our Distribution Center, which is located at 3677 Mapleshade Lane, Plano, TX 75075. 

  

Description: Volunteer as an individual to help us repack bulk rice, beans, or pasta into one-pound bags for hungry North Texans in a warehouse environment while working cooperatively with other volunteers and staff.  Specific dress code regulations are required for this opportunity; please review the dress code policy below. Volunteers may potentially be lifting 20 - 25 pound boxes.  

Age Requirements: According to safety guidelines, all attendees must be 16 years of age or older.   

Dress Code: Due to the nature of this opportunity, a strict dress code policy will be enforced.  

Closed-toe shoes are required (no sandals or flip flops).   Wedding bands with no stones may be worn under gloves. Medical alert bracelets and necklaces may be worn under gloves or tucked into your shirt. No other jewelry(earrings, bracelets, rings, necklaces, watches, etc.) will be allowed to be worn in the room.    No loose clothing or sleeveless shirts are allowed. Short-sleeve shirts are recommended.  Outer layers such as jackets and cardigans must be removed.  Long sleeves will be required to be tucked into gloves.   NTFB will provide gloves that must be worn while in the room. You may not supply your own gloves for this opportunity.   NTFB will provide hair nets and beard nets that must be worn while in the room. A hat may not be worn instead of a hair net.

Small personal lockers are provided right outside the space. You will be unable to access these items during the shift. Bags, such as purses or backpacks, will not fit inside these lockers.

Description:  Volunteer as an individual and help us sort, bag, and box refrigerated or frozen food for hungry North Texans in a refrigerated warehouse environment while working cooperatively with other volunteers and staff.  Closed-toe, non-slip shoes are required. Frozen foods may include frozen meat (beef, pork, & poultry). Refrigerated product might be dairy product. Volunteers will be working in the warehouse, which is 66 degrees. The product that you will be working with is refrigerated or frozen.

Attire:  Closed-toe, non-slip shoes are required (no sandals or flip flops). Shoes with rubber soles are recommended. We recommend comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in. We recommend bringing winter style gloves to wear since you are handling refrigerated or frozen product. Items that are not appropriate include revealing clothing or dangling accessories. The room is 66 degrees, so heavy jackets are not necessary.

Volunteer: Food Donation Door Clerk

Description: Provide excellent customer service while receiving food donations at our donation door. This position requires basic math skills and face to face contact with the public. Closed-toe shoes are required. Ability to lift at least 25 lbs. This opportunity includes pushing, pulling, lifting and bending. On the job training will be provided. You will experience some down time, please feel free to bring a book or work. You are welcome to bring a laptop or tablet, however, please make sure it is fully charged as there is not a power outlet nearby. We appreciate your time. This opportunity is for 18 years and older. 

On the job training will include learning how to use a manual pallet jack and donation receipt system.

Commitment: Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and orientation will start promptly at 9:00 a.m.  We suggest arriving a few minutes prior to your shift to find parking and to check-in on the kiosk.  Thank you for being on time as we follow an agenda to be as productive as possible.  Running late?  If you are 10+ minutes late, we cannot guarantee you will be able to volunteer.  Need to cancel?  We appreciate you canceling your registration in a timely manner so we may offer the slots to other volunteers. 

Safety: We invite volunteers into our facility to help fight hunger and it is important that we maintain a safe environment. Volunteers are expected to comply with all rules, follow the directions given by station leaders, and immediately report any accidents to a staff member.  

Accommodation Needs: This opportunity includes standing, bending, and lifting.  Please let us know if you have accommodation needs. A variety of produce is donated each day; please let us know of any food allergies.

Parking:  Carpooling is highly recommended.  Thank you for not parking in a reserved spot or in the lot of our neighbors. Please let us know if your group is arriving on a bus.

Tracking Hours:  Any volunteer (youth or adult) needing to track hours for employer matches, school, scholarships, scouts, etc. must create their own account, sign up, and check-in for every shift.  If you are not in our system, we cannot verify hours.  In addition to tracking hours in our online system, you may ask the receptionist for a North Texas Food Bank Hour Verification Form after the shift.  Our policy is to not sign any court-appointed service documents including time sheets. If the shift ends early you will still be rewarded for the entire shift.

Lobby Hours:  Normal lobby hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Shift Closure:  If a shift is closed due to inclement weather, a cancellation email will be sent to all volunteers who signed up by 8:00 a.m.
