Join us to kickoff our 2nd annual 24-hour Volunteer-a-thon on North Texas Giving Day!! On September 19th, the Communities Foundation of Texas hosts North Texas Giving Day to to empower every person to give back to their community by supporting local nonprofits and causes. On this day of giving, we are celebrating our volunteers by hosting fun-filled volunteer shifts around the clock!

This shift is Taylor Swift themed, so get your friendship bracelets ready as we enter our Hunger Fighting Era! Volunteers are encouraged to participate in the theme and sing the night away to Taylor Swift.
This opportunity takes place at our Distribution Center, which is located at 3677 Mapleshade Lane, Plano, TX 75075.
Description: Volunteer as an individual or group and help us sort, bag, and box food for hungry North Texans in a warehouse environment while working cooperatively with other volunteers and staff. Closed-toe shoes are required. Volunteers may potentially be lifting 25-30 pound boxes.
Age Requirements: According to safety guidelines, all attendees must be 12 years of age or older. All attendees must be registered for the volunteer event, both chaperones and youth. Chaperones are required to volunteer with the minor; the chaperone cannot sit in the volunteer orientation room.
- Volunteers ages 12-15 require at least one adult chaperone per 3 youth.
- Chaperone must be 18 years old and take legal responsibility for the minor. NTFB does not provide chaperones.
- Volunteers ages 16+ do not require chaperone.
Attire: Closed-toe shoes are required (no sandals or flip flops). We recommend dressing in comfortable and casual clothes suitable for the season. Items that are not appropriate include revealing clothing or dangling accessories. Taylor Swift themed costumes must be within our dress code.
Team Reservations: If a team leader created a team and reserved spots for team members, team members are still required to create an account and join the team. This must be done at least 10 calendar days before the shift date. We release any unfilled reserved spots from teams 10 calendar days before the shift. Team leaders can provide team members with the unique team link to access the reserved spots.
Commitment: Check in will starts at 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18th and orientation will start promptly at midnight. We suggest arriving a few minutes prior to your shift. Thank you for being on time as we follow an agenda to be as productive as possible. Running late? If you are 10+ minutes late, you will not be able to volunteer. Need to cancel, here is how you can cancel? We appreciate you canceling your registration in a timely manner so we may offer the slots to other volunteers.

Safety: We invite volunteers into our facility to help fight hunger and it is important that we maintain a safe environment. Volunteers are expected to comply with all rules, follow the directions given by station leaders, and immediately report any accidents to a staff member.
Accommodation Needs: This opportunity includes standing, bending, and potentially lifting 25-30 pounds. Please let us know if you have accommodation needs.
Tracking Hours: Any volunteer (youth or adult) needing to track hours for employer matches, school, scholarships, scouts, etc. must create their own account, sign up, and check in for every shift with a staff member. If you are not in our system, we cannot verify hours. If you check in through the Galaxy site or add your own hours, they will not be approved. By checking in with a staff member your hours will be entered in automatically. In addition to tracking hours in our online system, you may ask the Volunteer Experience Team for a North Texas Food Bank Hour Verification Form after the shift. Our policy is to not sign any court-appointed service documents including time sheets.
Lobby Hours: Normal lobby hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Shift Closure: If we need to cancel a shift for any reason, a cancellation email will be sent to all volunteers who signed up by 8:00 a.m.
Inviting News Media: Please make arrangements prior to your shift with the North Texas Food Bank’s Communication Team if you are inviting news media.
Parking: Carpooling is highly recommended. Thank you for not parking in a reserved spot or in the lot of our neighbors. Please let us know if your group is arriving on a bus.
