The North Texas Food Bank's Social Services Team is hosting a Community Event in Ferris! This event is for families in Ellis County to learn about available resources and receive a food box!
Description: Volunteers will help unload, set up, and distribute food directly to clients in a fast-paced, outside environment. Volunteers must have good verbal skills and physically able to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop and lift at least 25 pounds repeatedly throughout their shift.
Location: The opportunity will take place at the Ferris City Pavilion located across 6th Street from City Hall. For Google Maps and Waze, City Hall's address is 100 Town Plaza, Ferris, TX 75125. For Apple Maps, City Hall's Address is 100 South Main Street, Ferris, TX 75125. A site map can be found here.
Chaperone Requirements: All attendees must be 18 years of age or older, but 16 and 17 year old may volunteer if a guardian or a group leader (who has secured permissions to participate) are in attendance.
Attire: Closed-toe shoes are required (no sandals or flip flops). If you do not have closed-toed shoes you will be asked to join us another day with proper attire. We recommend dressing in comfortable and casual clothes suitable for the season. We recommend sunscreen, sunglasses, work gloves, and hats. If you have your own safety vest then feel free to bring it; but if you don't then we will provide some onsite.
Commitment: Check in will begin at 8:15 AM and orientation will begin promptly at 8:30 AM. Our hungry neighbors are counting on you to arrive on time and to stay for the entire shift. If you are unable to complete the full shift, then please log into your account and cancel your registration. We hope you can join us another time.
Parking: Parking is available along the streets in the downtown district.
Safety: We invite volunteers to our distribution sites to help fight hunger and it is important that we maintain a safe environment. Volunteers are expected to comply with all rules and follow the directions given by site coordinator.
Tracking Hours: Any volunteer (youth or adult) needing to track hours for employer matches, school, scholarships, scouts, etc. must create their own account, sign up, and check in for every shift. If you are not in our system, we cannot verify hours. Our policy is to not sign any court-appointed service documents including time sheets.
